This is when I picked up Glenna’s book, The Promise is His Presence. In her book, Glenna took me by the hand and led me through her story of suffering, waiting, and unanswered prayers alongside the redemption narrative of Scripture from Genesis to Revelation. As she did, she showed me how God’s promise isn’t an easy life, immediate answers to our prayers, or a lack of suffering. God’s promise is to always be with his people, and he fulfills this promise throughout the entirety of the Bible.

I used to imagine the day I would be free from anxiety. I pictured myself encouraging others who battled by saying that they too, someday, could find healing and peace. I imagined writing a book about how I overcame anxiety and others could too. I pictured that triumphant day, swinging my legs over the side of my bed, and smiling into the new day, anxiety-free. Instead, I sit on my bed, twenty-one years old, still waging war with anxiety.

Don't Waste Your Season of Waiting

I am not a naturally patient person. When I am waiting for an email, I refresh my mail app multiple times in one hour. When I am looking forward to a day, I count down both the days and hours. When one renovation in our house is finished, I am already looking forward to the next one. When children ask to help me with a task, I put on a smile, but inwardly I’m groaning thinking about how much longer the task is now going to take.

Today, I want to learn to wait well by cultivating eyes to see God at work, hands ready for obedience, and a heart that is willing to learn. Will you join me?
