Do you already feel like a failure when you see the put-together moms around you? Aside from my fears of throwing up, I have many other reasons to feel like a failure compared to my fellow mom friends. But God is giving me a new hope in him, and teaching me to stop looking around at others and start looking at him.

In the universal church and the local church we are going to come across fellow believers that we clash with. People will annoy us, hurt us, and make us angry. Can we love them and not like them? We are called to not only love some of our fellow brothers and sisters, but to love each and every one. 

It takes us by surprise—the cringe-worthy memory of a past sin we wish we could forget. The pain, the regret, the shame, and disgusting feelings all returned as if you had just committed the sin again. What do we do with these memories that make us cringe?

God has taught me to love the Psalms and rest in them. In weary times when my mind is too tired to focus and my heart is jumbled and distracted, I have found rest in studying the Psalms. I didn’t believe that a study of the Psalms would challenge me like it has and cause such growth. I was a fool to doubt God’s beautiful and inspired Word. 

My theology-loving friend, I want to warn you of the same pride that could grow inside of you as you grow in knowledge. When we are not using our theology to love and serve God and those he has placed around us, our knowledge could be our downfall.

The why and how of memorizing Scripture—even though you can Google any verse you like.

As our expectations of what marriage with a Christian man should look like is slowly torn to bits and tossed to the wind, we can feel discouraged, angry, hopeless, bitter, and heartbroken. What do we do with these feelings? How do we bring back that love we had at the altar?

I am not a naturally patient person. Waiting for God to answer my prayers is painful. I want to learn to wait well by cultivating eyes to see God at work, hands ready for obedience, and a heart that is willing to learn. Will you join me?

What does it meant to be filled with the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit not only gives us the ability to understand Scripture, but He is also the One who enables us to obey it.

When we study the Bible, we may be tempted to take pride in our knowledge, practice, or ability. But if we only had our own talent to get us through Scripture, it would not be enough. The Holy Spirit not only helps us understand the Bible, but also convicts our hearts of sin and directly applies the Word to our hearts.

I have learned it is not a question of, “Is theology or good deeds more important?”, but rather, “Are you cultivating both?”

Before we begin learning how to study the Bible, we need to set our foundations. It is critical that we understand the purpose and characteristics of the Bible if we want to study it well. If we are to rightly delight in the Word of God, we must begin with a knowledge of it.
